AMT_PE 12 - Sound Formats for AMT_PE under Windows (1-Aug-95)
Q Can I use AIFF files in my AMT/PE project? They work on the Macintosh, but will
they work under Windows?
A AMT/PE Windows applications do not support AIFF files; they expect sound files
to be in WAV format. There is a utility called To Apple Media Kit Sound that
ships with Apple Media Tool. Drag and drop your AIFF or 'snd ' files onto this
applet; it will convert them to WAV format. (Note: it does this "in place,"
i.e., it does not create a copy of the sound. So if you want to retain your
original format as well, make a copy first).
Helpful hint: When digitizing your sounds, sample them at 22.050 or 11.025 kHz
rates. The default Mac rates (22.225 and 11.127) are not well-supported by
PC's. If you hear audio "pop" artifacts on the PC, you need to resample your
sounds at one of these rates. The Mac has no problem playing back at any of
these rates so you're better off sampling at rates that make the PC happy.
